Power Collective CIC (backed by We Are Power) had the pleasure of hosting one of our "Power Up Live" sessions at Convention of the North in the famous Royal Armouries, Leeds on 29th February 2024, it marked a significant departure from the traditional conference experience for both the students and our mentors! We set ourselves the task of convening a "Power Up Live" like no other during the conferences lunch time break.
Our primary focus was that of inclusivity, empowerment and providing a voice for our younger generation. Power Collective CIC successfully facilitated a dynamic platform where young voices from regions across the North could express their visions for the future, engage in meaningful dialogue and confront the realities of today's world in an open and honest setting.
"Our students were so enthusiastic about the conversations they had as part of the lunch time Power Up Live networking session, it was the part of the day that really got them fired up. Thank you Power Collective CIC for organising!" Sarah Clynes - Vice Principal at Dixons Unity Academy
Objectives of the COTN Power Up Live:
"Power Up Live COTN" was aimed to boost the confidence of young individuals, providing them with an opportunity to discuss their aspirations, ambitions, and the challenges they face.
Engagement with Metro Mayors:
A pivotal aspect of the day was the opportunity for students to engage directly with Metro Mayors Tracy Brabin, Steve Rotheram, and Andy Burnham. This interaction provided a rare and valuable platform for the students to directly address and discuss their concerns, aspirations and ideas with influential political figures. The presence of the Metro Mayors not only added a significant level of gravitas to the day but also demonstrated a commitment to listening and engaging with the younger generation on matters of social and economic importance.
Enhanced by Mentorship:
The event saw the participation of mentors from renowned organisations such as Boohoo Group, EY, ASDA, Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), Girls in Charge, and experts like Claire Ackers. These mentors shared their knowledge and insights, offering guidance and support to the young participants, bridging the gap between youthful aspirations and professional expertise.
Impact:
The conversations initiated at "Power Up Live COTN" had a profound impact, inspiring participants and creating a ripple effect of empowerment that is likely to contribute to the development of future leaders. The direct engagement with Metro Mayors and the mentorship provided by professionals from various fields played a crucial role in enhancing the experience for the students.
"Power Up Live COTN" was more than just an event; it was a powerful movement towards a more inclusive and connected future. By providing a platform for young voices to be heard and engaging with key political figures and mentors from diverse sectors, the event underscored the importance of collective efforts in nurturing and supporting the leaders of tomorrow. This initiative showcased the transformative power of dialogue, mentorship and political engagement in shaping a future that reflects the aspirations and addresses the challenges of the next generation
"Our participation in Power Up Live at the Convention of the North truly showcased the power of engaging with the younger generation. Having students at the forefront of meaningful discussions was enlightening, the insights gained from them were invaluable."
